WASHINGTON, 6 September 2018 –The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) today announced that membership has grown to 28 think tanks in the Global Trade and Innovation Policy Alliance, an international think tank-network that conducts evidence-based research into policies that can foster greater trade liberalization, curb “innovation mercantilism,” and encourage governments to play proactive roles in spurring innovation and productivity.

The new think tanks include: The Institute for Policy, Advocacy, and Governance (Bangladesh); Observatorie de la Transformation Digitale (France); IMANI Africa (Ghana); Institute for Competitiveness (India); The Institute for Global Economics (Korea); Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS) (Malaysia); The Korea Instiute for Industrial Economics and Trade (Korea); The Bertelsmann Foundation (North America); The Prime Institute (Pakistan); and The Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research (Taiwan).

The network produces collaboratively authored content, such as the Declaration of Mutual Interest in Trade and Globalization for the Benefit of All Peoples and Nations, as well as a forthcoming report on comparative global innovation policies and hosts events such as the recently completed 2018 GTIPA Summit: Shaping Policies for Tomorrow’s Innovations, held in Milan, Italy

“The geographic diversity and reach of the distinguished research organizations involved in this Alliance underscores the breadth of support among policy experts around the world for rules-based trade liberalization and innovation,” said Stephen Ezell, ITIF’s vice president for global innovation policy, who is spearheading the Alliance. “Cross-border trade has made the global economy much more tightly integrated over the past few decades, and this has created new opportunities to boost growth and development. When nations share a dedication to playing by the rules and encouraging across-the-board growth, globalization can generate lasting, worldwide prosperity.”

ITIF launched the Alliance in 2016 as a platform to highlight and cross-pollinate member organizations’ work on trade, globalization, and innovation policy, and to collaborate on events, research, reports, and efforts to develop policy on related topics. All Alliance members have signed a Shared Statement of Principles, with the goal of advancing a global agenda that encourages greater market- and rules-based competition and trade liberalization, while at the same time championing a vital, constructive role for governments in accelerating growth and prosperity through greater innovation.
